Tegelwip
installation for Green Expo
Flanders Expo, Gent BE
2024

Verloren Bekisting was asked by Breekijzer vzw to propose a series of furniture and objects for @vktegelwippen. This campaign aims to break out concrete tiles and bricks and revive green surfaces. Verloren Bekisting developed multiple applications for these tiles and bricks, which otherwise would be thrown away. Our installation proposes a series of objects: a planter, a bench, a column, and a shelf. To connect the tiles, a clamp was created made up of two metal beam carriers tied together with cable ties that keep the construction of the shelf stable. These beam carriers are available at every local construction market. The manual explains in steps how one could make these objects after concrete tiles and bricks have been taken out of their yard or sidewalk. The design focuses on accessible connections and local assembly. This way, the heavy material does not need to be transported to a different location in order to get a new function.
