trashcan for a nightclub

Verloren Bekisting was asked by La Cassette to design a trashcan to be placed next to the queue of multiple nightclubs in Amsterdam. Most public trashcans in The Netherlands are produced by Vconsyst (formerly known as Bammens). We got in contact with Vconsyst to ask about waste material in their factory. Vconsyst made multiple rejected Capitole trashcans available to us, material which they would otherwise dispose of. The Capitole trashcan is an icon of Dutch public space, designed by Bas Pruyser. We assembled six of these Capitole bins together with construction fence clamps. The sculpture turns an everyday object into something monumental. At night, lighting brings it to life, glowing in the dark like a totem of the city’s dance culture.
